Matthew Keyes

Matthew attended Butler University and later the Robert H. McKinney School of Law at Indiana University and graduated in 2010. While in law school, Matthew excelled in the classroom and as part of the school’s clinical programs. He graduated in the top 24% of his law class and earned the 2010 Outstanding Clinic Student of the Year Award. Matthew also competed in and won the 2010 IU Client Counseling Competition, advancing to the ABA Client Counseling Competition where he was a regional Semi-finalist.

After law school, Matthew began his legal career as a trial attorney with the Marion County Public Defender Agency. There he began to hone his skills at trial and in the courtroom. To date, Matthew has conducted hundreds of different types of hearings (including dozens of Jury Trials) to completion for his clients. His reputation as a skilled and forceful litigator has been well earned.

In 2014, after years of representing clients charged with serious crimes including major felonies and misdemeanors, Matthew formed his own practice. Then in May 2018, Matthew joined the firm of Cate, Terry & Gookins LLC as Of Counsel. His practice is all about helping those who have suffered a significant harm or who’s freedom is at stake, focusing primarily on civil litigation (including Personal Injury, Medical Malpractice, as well as other forms of business and personal disputes.)

Matthew prides himself on “client-centric” representation. That means that you can expect him to listen more than talk. Representing clients and their interests is what he does, and to do that, he needs to know all there is to know about a client and their situation so that he can craft the best solution to any given problem. It is his firm belief that this is the best and most efficient way to help people in their time of need.

Matthew lives in Carmel with his wife and two children. When he’s not in court, he is active in the Indianapolis lacrosse community, as both a coach and player.
